Job Summary of the Maintenance Supervisor position
Integr8staff seeks a skilled Maintenance Supervisor to oversee daily operations in the maintenance, machinery, equipment, and facilities for a food manufacturing company.
Responsibilities of the Maintenance Supervisor position
Hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting of food manufacturing facility to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, particularly for older production equipment that may require more frequent repairs and proactive maintenance.
Developing and executing maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and equipment failures.
Coordinate and participate in maintenance tasks, including hands-on repairs, inspections, and equipment adjustments on both mechanical and electrical systems.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues for older machinery, utilizing technical skills and innovative approaches to solve problems.
Regularly inspect equipment to proactively identify issues, wear and tear, and potential failures in processing lines, which may require more creative problem-solving.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and maintenance protocols, keeping the older equipment in alignment with industry requirements.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, equipment status, and any modifications made to older machinery.
Lead, train, and develop the maintenance team, particularly in working with legacy equipment, to ensure technical skills are sufficient for troubleshooting and repair needs.
Oversee facilities services (such as wastewater drains, stormwater, etc.) and ensure compliance with environmental regulatory agencies such as AQMD and CalEPA.
Collaborate with operations to identify potential improvements or modifications to increase the efficiency of older production lines.
Requirements of the Maintenance Supervisor position
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certifications in maintenance-related fields (mechanical, electrical, HVAC) preferred.
5-8 years of experience in maintenance or a related hands-on technical role, with a focus on maintaining older manufacturing equipment.
Proficiency with maintenance tools, equipment, and fabrication techniques, as well as basic computer systems and CMMS software.
Experience in managing maintenance schedules and team coordination, particularly in environments where older equipment is prevalent.
Expertise in maintaining older mechanical and electrical systems that may lack modern diagnostics, requiring manual troubleshooting.
Direct involvement in repairing processing equipment, including belt-driven systems, conveyors, dryers, mixers, and packaging machines.
Understanding of the unique challenges posed by maintaining and troubleshooting legacy machinery that is no longer supported by the manufacturer, often requiring custom repairs or parts fabrication.
Familiarity with older PLC systems, timers, and analog control systems used in production, and the ability to maintain or modify them when replacement parts are scarce.
Skilled in establishing preventative maintenance routines for older equipment to extend the operational life of machinery.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and outdated schematics, along with creative problem-solving when documentation is incomplete or outdated.
Experience in fabricating parts or making adjustments through welding and machine shop skills to modify or repair equipment that is no longer in production.
Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS): Proficiency in using CMMS to track maintenance activities, inventory, and generate reports, even when manual workarounds are required for older equipment not fully integrated with modern systems.
Physical Requirements of the Maintenance Supervisor position
Ability to stand, walk, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Able to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads, particularly when moving equipment or parts.
Able to work with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment for adjustments and repairs.
Tolerance for working in varying temperature conditions and noisy environments common in food production facilities.
Compliance with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and other gear as necessary for safety in a manufacturing setting.
